Test field at a glance

Already our comparisons “Smartphones up to 150 Euro in the test” and “Smartphones up to 200 Euro in the test” have shown that a good mobile phone does not have to be expensive anymore. But it is still worth spending a little more money. For 250 euros you get devices with more computing power, more memory and better cameras. Netzwelt has tested and compared over 50 smartphones up to 250 euros for you. In the following table, you can see the test results and key data for the current Top 10 in this price range. By the way, you can compare over 250 smartphones in our mobile comparison.

Note: The list is sorted alphabetically. Large display comparatively compact installed. Separate slots for second SIM and memory card a lot of computing power for little money. Apps can not be swapped to an SD card. Any gaming features only work with PUBG Mobile. Only 4 gigabytes of RAM

A real value for money cracker

The Honor 8X offers hardware and features for 250 euros, for which you have to pay much more elsewhere. The compromises you have to make are acceptable. If the phone is not too big, you can strike without hesitation.

Value for money cracker with limited gaming qualities

Honor is once again a true price-performance hit with the Honor Play. Whether processing, performance or battery life: In almost all categories, the mobile phone is above average in terms of price. As a gaming smartphone, it is only partially suitable. Here we would have wished for more storage. The gaming effects are more of a gimmick except for the Histen sound technology and currently, work only with PUBG Mobile.

Innovative design, solid hardware, long battery life

Since the One mini, HTC has had no luck with its mid-range models. The devices offered in recent years often weaker equipment than the competition but were significantly more expensive. That’s different from the HTC U12 Life. The equipment offers only a few minor weaknesses, in addition, the cell phone shines with an innovative and striking design. If you value design and are looking for a solid smartphone with good battery life for less than 400 euros, this is the place to go.

Many strengths, few weaknesses

The Mate 20 Lite shines in the test with an excellent battery life, good voice quality, a strong colour display and a good price for the camera – even if the Master AI in the test can not always convince. The further equipment is appropriate from the price. All in all, Huawei has put together a much stronger overall package than a year ago. However, the Mate 20 Lite is not superior to the competition in terms of its mid-range models, despite “Artificial Intelligence”. It easily secures a place in the top group.

Better camera for a small surcharge

The Huawei P smart 2019 is a solid budget smartphone, but the Plus model offers a better camera for a small fee. With its ultra-wide-angle sensor, the triple camera significantly expands the possibilities of taking pictures. The P smart + 2019 stands out clearly from competitors like the Moto G7. Too bad that Huawei did not make any further improvements. Then an even higher rating would have been possible.

A lot of smartphone for 250 euros

The Moto G6 offers a range of features that other smartphones in this price range do not have to offer, such as the USB C port, support for Quick Charging and the three microphones that ensure excellent voice quality. In addition, the smartphone is very smart to look at. Unfortunately, the slippery design does not always turn out to be an advantage in everyday life.

Good and cheap, but not terrific

Motorola has made significant improvements on the Moto G7, as the overall look is solid. A breakthrough, the manufacturer achieved with the main model but not, for example, offers Nokia 7 plus a little more at the same price. It should also be noted that there are cell phones for 300 euros, whose price-performance ratio is still a lot better. The G7 is good in every area, but not outstanding. In spite of this, you certainly do not go wrong with the purchase of the smartphone.

A weekend without a socket

The Moto G7 Power creates something that most cell phones do not manage: namely, even with heavy use two days without any problems without electricity. There are hardly any compromises to the already good main model despite the lower price. The choice between the two smartphones thus depends on how much you estimate a longer battery life. For us, the G7 Power is ultimately the winner and gets a recommendation as a special all-round phone.

Compact smartphone with Super AMOLED display

The Galaxy A40 is a solid smartphone and the price proclaimed by Samsung appears fair. One of the advantages of the mobile phone, in addition to its compact size, is clearly the bright Super AMOLED screen. For that, you have to compromise on performance and voice quality. These can be overcome but from our point of view.

Almost as good as the One Vision, but the unique selling point disappoints

Let’s summarize: Motorola One Action costs less than 260 euros and offers a decent set-up. Good performance, lots of memory, a long battery life, Android One and a modern 21: 9 display. Even on a headphone jack and microSD slot has not been waived despite the low price. Everything tops? Not quite – the cameras are much worse than the barely more expensive One Vision. Especially the action cam disappointed. The rotated wide-angle camera is innovative, but neither a killer feature nor implemented very well.

Solid smartphone, but somewhere else for more money

The Galaxy A6 (2018) is different than it seems, not a successor to the Galaxy A5 (2017). Samsung’s new mid-range model does indeed appeal in the test with its large display, which is in a compact and robust metal housing. For the recommended retail price, however, the equipment is weak. Here, the new mid-range model is even partially behind the previous year’s models of the South Korean manufacturer. The good voice quality and battery life can comfort it only conditionally. Other 300-euro smartphones offer you more for the money.

Solid mid-range smartphone without extras

The Galaxy A6 + (2018) scores in the test with its large, sharp display and a long battery life. Unfortunately, the Samsung smartphone misses many comfort features such as Quick Charging, IP68 or USB C. This prevents a higher score.

Cheap, innovative, good

The range of smartphones under 400 euros is great. The Galaxy A7 (2018) stands out from this with its triple camera positive. Especially since in return for the unique feature apart from the old micro-USB port, you do not have to “swallow toads”. If you do not mind the size of the cell phone, you will find in the A7 (2018) a cheap mid-range cell phone with innovative features that will surely give you a lot of pleasure in everyday life.

Many strengths, few weaknesses

The Mate 20 Lite shines in the test with an excellent battery life, good voice quality, a strong color display and a good price for the camera – even if the Master AI in the test can not always convince. However, the Mate 20 Lite is not superior to the competition in terms of its mid-range models, despite “Artificial Intelligence”. It easily secures a place in the top group.

Solid budget phone, but not more.

While the predecessor stood out among other things still with a robust metal housing from the mass of budget smartphones, the P smart 2019 delivers in the test, although a solid performance. However, you are looking in vain for unique selling points. The phone is among the better models in its price range, an exclamation point Huawei does not use this smartphone.

But no cell phone for Generation Z

Is the Huawei P smart Z now the perfect mobile phone for Generation Z? The name suggests this, but our test has shown that this is only partially true. The low price, the long-lasting battery and the large display, which invite you to video streaming on the go, definitely appeal to generation Z. These are also the features that stand out as a purchase argument. On the other hand, Generation Z is a generation that photographs everything and captures everything in the media. 64 GB of internal memory – without an additional microSD card, this could be for many people. Moreover, it is precisely this young generation that is very demanding in terms of photo quality. Be it your own selfie or the great night shot for Instagram: photos are in the foreground with this target group. Here, the camera equipment of the Huawei P smart Z might not meet the high demands of the youth. On the other hand, the pop-up camera is a feature that should particularly please security fanatics.

Too bad that Huawei did not make any further improvements. Then an even higher rating would have been possible.

Solid smartphone with trendy design

The Huawei P20 Lite delivers a solid performance in the test. Huawei has packed the hardware in a stylish and comparatively compact case in the trendy Notch design. However, with the nova 2 and the Mate 10 Lite already two technically quite similar smartphones in the portfolio of the Chinese manufacturer, which are still cheaper available. This means: The P20 Lite is not bad, but for a higher rating, we find one or the other eye-catching feature of the sister models at a retail price of over 300 euros.

Smartphone with good camera, sharp display, but also many weaknesses.

The Honor 10 Lite is unlike its predecessor, not an all-rounder. It scores in the test especially with its design and its camera. Voice quality and battery life, on the other hand, are only average or even worse. The equipment is solid, but at the same price, there are already smartphones with more memory and USB C. The bottom line is the proclaimed price for what is offered a bit too high. If you find the phone at a lower price in the trade, you will get a smart smartphone with a good camera and good display.

Good, but not extraordinary.

Like its predecessors, the Honor 7X offers excellent workmanship and solid performance, and the 18: 9 display also features a feature that not every smartphone currently has to offer. Unlike its predecessors, the Honor 7X is no longer unrivalled. With the Wiko View, the Mate 10 Lite from Huawei and the LG Q6, there are already two cheap mid-range smartphones with a corresponding display on the market. The Gigaset GS370 will soon be followed by another one.

Solid smartphone with lost potential

The Motorola One appeals in the test with its compact form factor, the long battery life and the updated warranty over two years. The aged hardware and the boring design, however, prevents a higher score. Motorola has clearly given away potential here.
